Another big selling point about Hotel Romi is how easy it is to find. Ninety-nine percent of internationals come through the Port of Colonia (Puerto de Colonia) on one of the ferries from Buenos Aires, either Buquebus or Colonia Express. The hotel sits about six to eight blocks from the terminal. For most people with wheeled luggage, this is a fifteen-minute maximum walk over modern paved sidewalks (not cobblestones). So you do not necessarily need a taxi. You simply exit the terminal, walk up Rivera or Flores, and you're there.

If you are coming by a bus from Montevideo, the Colonia Bus Terminal is just next to the ferry terminal. The walking directions remain exactly the same. In case you are carrying heavy bags or have mobility issues, there are taxis standing right at the exit of the terminal building. A ride to our hotel will take less than 5 minutes and also very low cost (usually under $5-6 USD equivalent). They all know Hotel Romi by name, so navigation is seamless.

If you are coming in a rental car from Montevideo or any part of Uruguay, then just see how close the hotel is to Route 1. Also notice how easily navigable the grid system of downtown streets is compared to those confusing narrow lanes of the old quarter where cars seldom venture and are more often restricted. Parking needs some thinking ahead-the hotel may have a small garage or an agreement with one nearby lot but capacity tends to be limited; on-street parking which during daytime hours is almost always metered (Zona Azul) can be paid for at local kiosks buying time per hour or now also available through an app on your smartphone, rules seem to relax over weekends and evenings but always check current signage with reception desk not get fined.
